A Reportage Ads alternative, drawn as a system: components, data flow, failure modes
Reportage Ads is a 20-post WordPress blog whose homepage is its latest article and whose only order mechanism is an e-mail link. These notes map what is deployed, and how to inspect a placement with data instead of trust.
Our index shows reportage-ads.com at DR 26 (our own metric, not Ahrefs DR or Moz DA), with 74 referring domains and 1,315 backlinks, 790 of them dofollow (60.1%). Links were first seen on 2024-07-12 and last seen on 2026-09-06. The loudest referrer is virlan.com with 589 links across 271 pages, all dofollow, with "Reportage" as the top anchor. Add virlan.co (133 links) and the operator's two own sites account for 722 of 1,315 backlinks, or 54.9%. Take them out and 72 domains supply 593 links.
The second shape is older and quieter. googleblog.com (DR 63, 203 links), discountschoolsupply.com (105) and surfrider.org (92) all link with throw-away anchors such as "topicclick", "find" and "star", every one nofollow, and 491 of those links land on a single Persian URL, /دانلود-موزیک-رایگان/, which translates as "free music download". The 491 links come from Blogger comment sections, and the page they target now has an 11-word body, which suggests an earlier use of the domain. Finally, 17 of the 74 referrers are .ir domains, and the anchors "ویرلن" (VIRLAN) and "رپورتاژ آگهی" (reportage ad) show up on Persian publishers such as digiato.com. That matches the Persian sidebar text on the homepage.
Reportage Ads at a glance
- What it is
- A WordPress blog about guest posting, sponsored content and link building. Title tag ends in "Reportage Ads"; the logo and footer say "RAGPs".
- Size
- 20 posts, 0 pages, one author account (VIRLAN). Oldest post 2021-11-03, newest 2026-07-14.
- Ordering
- "Submit Guest Post" is a mailto link. No form, account area or marketplace on the site.
- Price
- Not published.
- API
- None. Only the stock WordPress REST API that every WordPress site exposes.
- Domain
- Registered 2016-07-14 (RDAP). Behind Cloudflare, origin LiteSpeed.
- Operator
- VIRLAN, which also runs virlan.co and virlan.com. No legal entity or country is named on the site.
Component inventory: what is deployed at reportage-ads.com
Start with the boring part, because it is short. The public WordPress REST API reports 20 posts and 0 pages and a single author account, "VIRLAN". The theme is Twenty Twenty, Yoast SEO is installed, Cloudflare sits in front and the origin answers as LiteSpeed. The menu has four items: Articles, SEO, Submit Guest Post, and a "Guest Post ROI Forecaster" that leaves the site and opens a page on virlan.co.
What is not in the diagram matters as much. /pricing, /about, /contact, /api and /docs all return 404 at the time of our check. There is no login, no order form, no catalogue of publishers. The one commercial interface is a Cloudflare-obfuscated mailto: link. As an architecture it is a single WordPress node behind Cloudflare, with an e-mail address as the only order interface.
The title tag reads "Guest Post | Backlink | Sponsored Content | Blogger Outreach | Reportage Ads": four topic keywords, then the brand name last.
Data flow: where a reader goes after landing on the blog
Follow the outbound links from the posts and the flow is simple. Almost every one of them goes to virlan.co, most often to its contact page, with anchors like "guest posting", "Sponsored content" and "PR". The footer adds more exits: gambling, sports-betting and crypto guest-posting pages on the operator's other sites.
| Stage | Where it happens | What is published |
|---|---|---|
| Discovery | reportage-ads.com articles | 20 posts, 2021 to 2026 |
| Qualification | virlan.co contact page | Wording on permanence and 3 dofollow links; country split of that site's audience |
| Order | E-mail or WhatsApp | Not published |
| Payment | Unknown | Not published |
So the blog is the top of a funnel, and the funnel's lower stages live on a different domain. That is a normal design for a small seller. It does mean that anything you read on virlan.co, such as "Permanently" or "3 Dofollow links are Allowed", is a statement about virlan.co. Nothing on reportage-ads.com itself promises the same terms for a post published there.
Inbound profile: reading the backlink graph as a system log
A backlink profile is a log of everything that ever pointed at a domain, and this one has three clearly separate writers.
- The operator. 589 links from virlan.com and 133 from virlan.co, anchors "Reportage" (635 backlinks in total, 48.29%, all dofollow) and "RAGPs" (88). They sit on unrelated articles, for instance a car page and a casino-guide page.
- Blogger comments. 491 nofollow links to the music-download URL, anchors "find", "topicclick", "star", "tik", "pagemusic16". The DR 63 and DR 49 donors are real domains. The links are comments, so they should not be read as editorial endorsements.
- Third-party advert pages. Twelve of the 74 referring domains are Telegram link-seller pages, all nofollow, each seen once, pointing at a single tag archive. They list many domains. We do not know who ordered them, and nothing in the data says the site did.
Add a Persian-language layer (17 .ir domains, DR 42 to 45 for publishers like alef.ir, eghtesadonline.com and namnak.com) and one stock image, casino-guest-post-1.jpg, that attracted seven dofollow links from auto-generated casino pages. The profile is a record of how the domain has been used, and it reads best in layers.
You can open it yourself in the free explorer; no sign-in needed.
Failure modes when you buy a placement from any small seller
This section is about the category, not a verdict on one site. A placement that is paid for and never checked has four ways to go wrong, and each one maps to a field we return.
- The donor is not what the pitch said. Claimed authority is a number the seller chose. Look at referring domains and donor DR for the host in our graph. In this very profile the same domain can read DR 37 in the
refdomainsrows and DR 45 fromdomain. Quote one endpoint and say which. - The link is there, but not followed. The
backlinksaction returnsreland a nofollow flag per link, and can filter by follow type. 525 of this domain's 1,315 links are nofollow. - The anchor drifts. The
anchorsaction returns the top 50 anchors per target, so you can see whether the phrase you asked for is the phrase that went live. - The crawl never sees it. Our data refreshes roughly monthly from our own web data and is not real-time, so a link live this week can take weeks to appear. Treat absence as "not yet" at first, and as a question for the seller after a couple of crawls.
None of this requires a dashboard. It requires four calls and a spreadsheet.
Cost model: one side has a price list, the other has an inbox
Reportage Ads publishes no price for a guest post, a sponsored post or a link insertion. Dollar figures do appear in its articles, but they describe other companies and the market, so they should not be read as its rates. To price a placement with this seller you e-mail, which is a perfectly ordinary way to buy a link, only a slower one to compare.
On our side the vetting bill is easy to state. A credit is $0.0001. Lookups such as domain cost 1 credit, list actions such as refdomains and backlinks cost 2, and search and keyword cost 3. A thorough check of one donor, say overview for free plus refdomains, anchors and backlinks for 2 credits each, comes to 6 credits, or $0.0006. Checking 50 candidate donors is 300 credits, or three cents. The $100 starter credit on first sign-in with Google, no card, covers roughly 166,000 such checks. The arithmetic is simple.
We sell data only. We do not sell, build or index links, so there is no placement price to compare with theirs, only the price of knowing what a placement is worth. The full action list and parameters are in the API docs.
Where Reportage Ads is the better choice
Some jobs are not API jobs, and it would be odd to pretend otherwise.
- You want a human, not a dataset. We have no order flow, no outreach and no publisher relationships. If the goal is a post written and placed, a seller you can e-mail does a job no endpoint does.
- You want no sign-up. The site shows no account area; contact is an e-mail message. For a one-off purchase that is a feature.
- Your niche is the operator's. The blog and its footer lean toward iGaming, sports betting and crypto content, and the operator's contact page publishes an audience split (32.00% United States, 8.54% United Kingdom, 7.19% Canada) for virlan.co. If that audience is yours, ask about it directly.
- You want Persian-language reportage. A homepage sidebar widget, in Persian, says the operator publishes reportage ads in Iranian news agencies. Our index shows matching Persian-publisher links, but we cannot confirm who placed them or on what terms.
Stay with them if the thing you need is a placement and they can supply it; whether the blog publishes outside posts is not stated. Come to us, or use both, when you also want to know what that post did to the donor's link profile. See also the Seofreshs alternative page.
A verification routine you can run in four calls
Here is the routine we would put in a build log, written as a hypothetical buyer who has been offered a placement on a host called candidate-blog.example. The domain is made up for illustration.
action=overview&q=candidate-blog.example. Free. Read DR, referring domains, the dofollow share and the top anchors. If the profile looks like the one above, with half the links from two sister sites, you now know the DR is mostly family.action=refdomains&q=candidate-blog.example. Who actually links to this host, and with what donor DR?- Agree the target URL and anchor, publish, wait a crawl or two, then
action=backlinks&q=your-site.examplefiltered by that source domain. - Run
action=anchorson your own site to confirm the phrase did not drift.
If step 3 stays empty after several crawls, you have a concrete thing to put in an e-mail. It will not tell you why, and it will not promise rankings or traffic. It tells you what the crawl saw. Our link-building tools hub points to other tools for the parts we do not cover, such as outreach and monitoring.
Open issues in this design note
A fair review lists what it could not establish. We could not establish what "RAGPs" stands for, who owns the business, where it is based or when it started trading. The only hard dates are the 2016-07-14 domain registration and the 2021-11-03 first post. We found no third-party reviews, ratings or press coverage, so there is nothing external to weigh against the site's own words. Whether the blog publishes paid guest posts from outside parties is also unknown, since all 20 posts carry the same byline.
On our side the limits are plain. our web index is a broad sample, so coverage is smaller and less fresh than the large commercial crawlers. We offer no new or lost link reports, no alerts, no toxicity score and no history charts. DR in our index is our own logarithmic 0 to 100 metric built from referring-domain counts, comparable in spirit to other tools' scores and never the same number. If any of those limits is a deal-breaker, the other tools are the right call.
